Murababandi was adopted by the state of Punjab though the Punjab Consolidation Act which was passed in 1948.

Mubabandi may also be referred to as Chakbandi.

The objectiveof theis act was the enable the consolidation of land which would allow for easier administration.

For the purpose of this act, consolidation meant the process of Amalgamating and subsequently distributing the land in such fashion so that the number of plots that a particular estate comprised of could be reduced.
