The sixteenth century was a time of religious ferment in Europe. The Christian church was split into two - 1.The one proposed by Martin Luther King which encouraged the use of common language and opposed to the practice of 'indulgences' 2.The other Roman Catholic Churches which supported the use of Latin rather than common language and believed that donations to the churches relieved the giver of sins.
