Evaporation occurs when the particles at the surface of a liquid which have higher kinetic energy break off at a temperature that is lower than the boiling point of the liquid. It is also known as a surface phenomenon.

However, Boiling is rather a bulk phenomenon, which occurs only when the liquid is heated to the boiling point of the liquid.
