In which way is science of heredity useful these days

Heredity is the passing of traits to offspring (from its parent or ancestors). ... The study of heredity in biology is called genetics, which includes the field of epigenetics.
A big part of heredity is about finding why things the way the are. For example, sickle cell anemia is a condition that causes people to have deformed RBC’s and this can cause many health issues, some resulting in death. Although this seems bad at first glance, but in reality it is a defense mechanism preventing the spread of malaria, hence sickle cell anemia’s prevalence in Africa. This is an example of how understanding heredity helps us figure out why certain traits are the way they are. The other, broader part, is that heredity helps parents know what traits to expect in their children, such as risks for diabetes, heart disease, cancer, mental illness, and thousands of others. With this knowledge they can do everything in their power to prolong their child’s life. Heredity also helps track lineage, where you are from. A lot of heredity isn’t necessarily world changing but is still very interesting.
