speed is a scalar quantity as in speed we don't know anything about direction but velocity is a vector quantity as in velocity directions are given to us with speed...

Speed depends on direction whereas velocity does not......hence speed is scalar and velocity is vector....speed is related to distance whereas velocity is related to displacement
