the novels were useful for both the colonizers as well as the nationalists in following ways:

1. Information about India: the colonisers got the information about india by the novels.

2. Through Vernacular novels: the colonizers got the deep knowledge about indian people's domestic lives, their cultures and traditions through vernacular novels.

3. Divide and rule: After getting knowledge about indian cultures, traditions and etc; they followed a policy of divide and rule and divided indian people on the basis of religion, traditions, caste and etc;

4. Nationalist and historic novels: through these types of novels many people were inspired. Novels were a powerful medium to criticize defects of colonial masters & suggest remedies.

5. Glorified our past: Novels helped in establishing a relationship with past and helped in creating a sense of national pride in the society.

6. Pan-Indian Identity: Novels glorified accounts of past and helped there nationalists in creating a sense of national pride and unity among their readers.
