Cell was discovered by Robert Hooke   in the year 1665. He discovered it when he took a slice of cork and placed it under his self designed microsope where he observed a honey comb structure like tiny compartments. He named these small compartments as cell.

The answer is 1665.

The cell was discovered in the year 1665. It was founded by Robert Hooke with the help of a microscope when he was observing a thinly cut cork piece. The structure he saw reminded him of the cellula occupied by Buddhist monks. Hence, he used the term cell to describe what he saw. However, the cell theory was formulated in 1830s by Matthias Jakob Schleiden and Theodor Schwann.
