In 1858, after the revolt of 1857, the East India Company ceased to work as administrative head and India was completely under taken by the British government or Crown.
The Revolt 1857 shook the foundations of the British rule in India. The British government did not want to take any risk further. So through Govt. Of India Act 1858 and Royal Proclamation of Queen Victoria the administration of India was transferred from East India Company to the British Crown and thus Queen assumed the government of India.
