2). The main focus of the first five-year plan was the agricultural development of the country. Agriculture is still the backbone of the Indian economy in terms of employment generation.

3). Collectivisation saw the creation of 'collective' farms. These, called kolkhozes, would replace smallholdings held by peasants with larger farms. The idea here is to have large fields in which crops can be sown, grown and harvested using modern machinery. Farm workers would live and work together.
