The British defeated Dalip Singh and annexed Punjab in the year 1849. This incident of March 1849 took place soon after the end of the Second Anglo-Sikh War when Dalip Singh was just ten years old. He was moved from Lahore to Fatehgarh in December of the same year under the care of Dr John Login.
