The first Republic Day parade was held on Rajpath which was then known as KingsWay on 26th January 1950.
But it was only after the year 1955 that Rajpath became as the permanent place for the Republic Day parade be held before that the place for the parade to be held kept on changing and the parade was held at the International Stadium or at Red Fort.
During the first Republic Day parade more than hundred planes took part in the celebration of the first Republic Day and this number is now decreased to thirty planes.
