In winter, the price of apples suddenly went up by $0.75 per pound. Sam bought 3 pounds of apples at the new price for a total of $5.88. Write an equation to determine the original price per pound (p).

Let the original price of 1 pound of apple be x

Therefore, price of 1 pound of apple during winter = x + 0.75

No of pounds of apples in winterbought by Sam = 3

Thus price of 3 pounds of apple in winter = 3(x +0.75)

According to question,

3 pounds cost $5.88,

Thus 3(x+0.75)=5.88

3x + 2.25 = 5.88

3x= 5.88-2.25

x= 3.63/3

x= 1.21

Ans: Original Price of 1 pound of apple is $1.21
