Iron pillar is made of metal.
It conducts cold easily as compared to a non-metal duch as wood.

Because metal transfers heat more quickly. Cold metal will transfer heat from your hand quickly, rapidly cooling the outer layer of your skin down to its temperature, and making you feel cool. Wood however will do that much more slowly, so your skin remains warmer for longer. In fact, your blood maybe be able to resupply heat to your skin faster than the wood can transfer it away, so that your skin never gets that cold at all.
The reverse is true when the materials are hotter than body temperature.
