Desert plants as one can understand grow in very dry conditions where water is scarce .They have to survive in such low rainfall areas. They are also called as xerophytes. So but naturally they are adapted to thrive in such conditions.
One of those adaptations is Having a waxy coating of cut in or suberin. This waxy coat helps them to minimise water loss in a way that it prevents transpiration. Hence plants like cactus, euphorbia and Australian acacia can grow and flourish in xeric conditions.
Transpiration is the loss of pure water in form of water vapour from the aerial parts of the plant which in turn helps regulate their temperature and the hydrological cycle in the atmosphere.
