1. the literacy rates of women are much lower than that of men. women's literacy rate is 54% while men's is 76%. This is because many indian parents prefer to spend more on men's education rather than a woman's. Even during the struggle for independence, efforts of women were not recognized by both mahatma Gandhi and congress.
2. The proportion of women in highly paid jobs is low even today due to gender discrimination at workplace. a man is considered more efficient at a work even when a woman is clearly better than him.
3. The equal remuneration act of 1976 specified equal right for men and women alike if they are in the same position(job). However this is not the same when it comes to practice.
4. the sex ratio of women stoops to 800s and 850s in some regions of india. this is due to sex selective abortion
5. the political representation of women is also not quite adequate. even though they got 1/3 of the total seats of the local government seats' reservation, a bill demanding for the same at the lok sabha and state assembly level had been pending for over a decade. even when a woman is the chief minister or the prime minister, the number of women representatives in lok sabha does not cross 10% of its total members.
