Hi

Poaching has been defined as the illegal hunting or capturing of wild animals, usually associated with land use rights.

The number of rhinos illegally slaughtered in South Africa reached an all-time high in 2013, with an average of three rhinos killed each day, according to new figures released this month by the South African Department of Environmental Affairs.

Hunting wildlife or feral animals is most commonly done by humans for food, recreation, to remove predators that are dangerous to humans or domestic animals, or for trade. Lawful hunting is distinguished from poaching, which is the illegal killing, trapping or capture of the hunted species

Here we'll look at some notable animals that have been hunted (or nearly) hunted to extinction.

Woolly Mammoths. ...

Caspian Tigers. ...

Thylacines (Tasmanian Tigers) ...

Dodos. ...

Passenger Pigeons. ...

Polar Bears. ...

Muskox. ...

American Crocodiles

Applying the same statistical approach to extinction data revealed a rate of 100 to 1,000 species lost per million per year, mostly due to human-caused habitat destruction and climate change. (See: "7 Species Hit Hard by Climate Change—Including One That's Already Extinct.

Hoping it helps
