Yes. Throwing a log at the snake is a petty act because the snake did not harm the poet in any way. It jut came out of its hiding to drink water and reprive the extreme heat. Even though the snake saw the poet it did not attack the him and was about to move into its hole. The sanke was a guest at the poets water though and theoet should not have harmed the snake.
