In your own words describe how mice may be trained to walk a tight-rope

Training mice can prove to be difficult if one doesn’t understand the psychology of the animals. Animals tend to follow commands when they are rewarded.

So every time the mice walk on the rope for a small distance it should be given something to it which will make it move longer distances.
