My best friend called me in the afternoon.

Bro: where are you?

Me: home. Why?

Bro: OK, we have to go to the airport to pick my uncle. He'll come to the domestic airport, he has given me his car, we'll go together.

Me: okay what time?

Bro: we leave at 8. I'll pick you up.

Me: cool.

He came to pick me up and we drove to the airport which was just ½hour away without traffic.

He parked the car at the end of the highway but near to the airport so that we don't have to pay for parking.

THE CAR WAS A TOYOTA COROLLA ALTIS.

IT WAS AN AUTOMATIC VEHICLE AND HAD START-STOP FUCTION.

He stopped the car and we stayed there for a while, we got a call from my friend's uncle saying the flight has been delayed (no proper time of arrival was mentioned) . We didn't have an option but to stay. There was a small grocery story besides the service road and there was a small group of boys chit chatting.

I suggested to go to a restaurant as I was super hungry and didn't have lunch. He agreed and tried to start the car. Boom! The car did not start.

I thought “that's alright automatic cars must have some special techniques or something”

(I never drove an automatic before, it was is second time)

He told me “this had happened earlier that day, I kept the car as it is for a while and it started”

I said “Okay! Let's give it a shot”

*hour passed by*

Car didn't start.

THIS IS WHERE MY PRESENCE OF MIND CAME TO ACTION!

Remember, there was a group of guys and a grocery shop? I went there and ask the shopkeeper whether there is a mechanic nearby? He was rude to me, so I didn't bother him more.

Then I heard the group talking in Marathi. Now I didn't brush up on my marathi since 8th standard.

BUT, I spoke to them in my broken marathi and they told me there is one guy who's garage is nearby but it should be shut down by now. So, I further questioned, does he stay nearby? (NOW I KNOW THERE WAS NO CHANCE THEY COULD'VE KNOWN, BUT I WENT FOR IT)

So they discussed amongst themselves and asked one of the member to take me to the mechanic’s place. I followed him and that guy was with his family, I explained the mechanic what the situation was, but at first he refused, I didn't give up and requested him further. It was kind enough of him to come and just have a look and tell what was wrong with the car.

MECH: The battery is ruined.

Bro: how I can't see anything, how do you know?

MECH: see this white powdery thing? It means your battery has lost its chemicals.

Me: So now?

MECH: I'LL OREDER A GUY WHO'LL COME AND GET THE BATTERY CHANGED.

Half an hour later his guy showed up, he charged ₹2,200 for the battery ₹200 more than usual.

But we got it done.

We had pav bhaji at 2 o'clock and celebrated (sorta)

Cheers!
