Let the expenditure be y
then,
a's expenditure =7y
b's expenditure =10y

8x-7y=500 ........(1)
again,
11x-10y=500 ........(2)
multiplying (1)by 10 and (2)by 7
80x-70y=5000 ......(3)
77x-70y=3500 .......(4)
on subtracting ex. (4) from(3),we get
80x-70y=5000
-77x+70y=-3500
=3x=1500
so, x=500.
from eq(1) we have
8x-7y=500
4000-7y=500
-7y=500-4000
-7y=-3500
so, y=500.
a's expenditure =7y=7*500=rs.3500
b's expenditure =10y=10*500=rs.5000
