Answer:

The Indian Subcontinent usually refers to the countries of India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Maldives.

The term "subcontinent" signifies a "subdivision of a continent which has a distinct geographical, political, or cultural identity".

India and it’s neighbouring countries do have a shared cultural identity, and till Independence, were part of the same political structure, i.e. British Indian Empire. This gives the countries of political and cultural identity. A lot of these countries too are developimg countries, and share a lot of problems, and world outlook.

Coming to the geographical identity, India and it’s surrounding countries sit on a major tectonic plate called the Indian Plate. The Himalayas were formed when the Indian plate crashed into the larger Eurasian plate.

Considering all this, these countries are collectively labelled as the Indian Subcontinent
