India and France signed a pact, to share information on maritime traffic and maritime domain awareness, in the Indian Ocean area in 2018.

This is to be achieved through launch of 8 to 10 surveillance satellites, that would focus on the India Ocean area. This move, one of the largest pacts India has entered into, is seen as a counter measure for increased Chinese presence in the area.
