India became an independent country but at the cost of partition, bloodshed and turmoil. So the making of constitution for such a newly independent country was a big challenge for its constitution makers. The challenges before the constitution makers were :

1. Huge population with diverse communities of India. The constitution makers had to satisfy all the communities and castes.

2.  Partition on the basis of religion and staying of millions of Muslims in India.

3.  Bloodshed and refugees from Pakistan.

4.  The problem of merger of princely states.

5.  Political instability and the war with Pakistan.

6.  The emerging of people of India from the status of subject to that of citizen.
