India, country that occupies the greater part of South Asia. Its capital is New Delhi, built in the 20th century just south of the historic hub of Old Delhi to serve as India’s administrative centre. Its government is a constitutional republic that represents a highly diverse population consisting of thousands of ethnic groups and likely hundreds of languages. With roughly one-sixth of the world’s total population, India is the second most populous country, after China.
The first and foremost thing! Advantage of living in India over the U.S.!
Bed Bugs! There are no bed bugs in India. The worst bit you could get is of the mosquito. Even that can be avoided while you are moving or when you have an “odomos” tube handy and a mosquito coil. My god! The American bed bugs as I like to call them are just..! I don’t really want to say the word here on Quora. But you can probably imagine. I dread these things! Seriously.
Actually, I changed my whole answer because just as I was typing this answer, my hand all of a sudden resembled a torn paper scratched and left out by a cat!
On a serious note, life in the U.S. is very mechanical. From what I have seen, people here like to do things in a monotonous manner. They are not looking for any kind of excitement or even a difference in their every day life that might displace the cozy comfort of their day.
In India, driving from home to work and back itself can sometimes get crazy as hell. I cannot speak for everyone here but I can say for myself that I had a lot more satisfaction when I got back home from college in India than I ever had in the U.S.
While I was in India last year, I was out with my friends late night because it was a friend’s birthday. We were hungry. We wanted to eat something at 1 o clock in the morning. We ate tasty paneer dosa, cheese dosa and then had a cone ice cream from a nearby ice cream “bhaiyya” :P
Here in the U.S., we were once traveling from Detroit to Kalamazoo late night. We were hungry. We searched and searched for a good place to sit down and eat at 11.30pm. We ended up going to the Drive thru at Mc D in one of the exits and I ended up drinking a Strawberry milkshake because all Mc D could offer a vegetarian was either that or a handful of fries. I’m not a big fan of fries, you see! :P
When I call my mom in the middle of the night (in India) because I’ve had a rough day or I needed help with a recipe or sometimes simply because I’m bored, my mom answers the call and talks to me until I take pity on her and let her sleep.
Here in the U.S., one of my professors once told me that he strictly told his daughter not to call him after 8 p.m. unless it is a life ruining emergency. I asked him what if she was missing him and wanted to talk? He said she was a grown up and she can handle herself. Well, I cannot handle myself actually, assuming I am now a grown. Heck, I sleep in between my mom and dad even now when I go home!
In India, if you are traveling somewhere you don’t know the address and you don’t have your phone with you, you will most definitely reach your destination without much hassle. In the U.S. however, if you are lost and don’t have a phone, it’s like you are lost in space without gravity. I once had this experience of losing my way and then I had to keep going round and round until one of my friends spotted me going around like mad and helped me get home! :P
