Answer: The constitution-makers were well- aware of the diversity of religion, race, caste, language and culture. They wanted to maintain unity in diversity.

• There is separation of state and religion.

• There is no official religion of the state.

• The citizens have been given freedom of religion.

• The state does not interfere in the religious matters.

• The state does not discriminate among the citizens on the basis of religion.

Therefore, India is a secular state.
