Well, you can talk of Gandhi. How tolerance got the Indians their freedom. You should also mention that tolerance need not necessarily mean that you keep tolerating wrongdoing. It simply means that you do not resort to violence in airing your grievances. You could mention the harm that violent protests could do to the mindset and the social fabric. Look at how Kashmir is boiling, simply because people took to the gun.
On the other side, you could talk of the fact that a nation needs to strong militarily to stave off any invasion. In fact, it is the military might that actually leads to peace.
