The constitution called India as union of states and the Indian union is based on the principle holding together federalism hence India was divided into some regions to follow the principles of federalism. These regions are called states . for example, bhar, odisha, West Bengal. There are some regions or areas which are too small to become an independent state, these regions are called union territories because they are governed by the central government. For example, Delhi and chandigarh.
