Maritime trade & strategic geopolitical location : India is placed in an advantages position in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
India is the only nation after which an entire ocean is named after . This is because the peninsular region has provided maritime access to three different continents (viz Africa, Australia and Europe) excluding Asia (Europeans had to to take the difficult route around Africa before Suez canal came into existence ).
This position has been beneficial to India since ancient times for trading with the world.
Indian diplomacy has been strengthened by its unique location. Its maritime prowess makes it a regional power in southeast Asia. You might have heard of Indian-Ocean Rim Association - Wikipedia

Location of Himalayas:
India was protected from invasion by land from the north for centuries.
Central India enjoys a warm climate as Himalayas protect the region from cold winds emerging in central Asia. Hence, many civilizations could thrive in the Ganga-Yamuna basin.
Monsoons :
Due to unique position of India ( huge coastline and location near tropic of cancer ) , a unique phenomenon called Monsoon occurs. South easterlies blow over land and hence, they don’t bring any rain.
However, the low pressure over India’s land mass attracts the south easterlies back towards the land. The winds carry moisture from the Arabian sea and bring rains to the subcontinent. These are called summer monsoons.
The opposite phenomenon happens in winter causing winter monsoon

Diverse climate types have given rise to diversity in culture, flora, fauna , soils and agriculture :
India has variety of climate zones in its territory . This has given rise to diverse flora and fauna, different cultures. It possible to grow a variety of crops in India due to different climate types and soils available in its territory

Indian Monsoon Is the perfect example of India’s geographical location in the world because each and every aspect of its geography becomes an important factor.
There are several reason for Indian monsoon occurs:
During the daytime in summers, Land becomes extremely hot and ocean remain relatively cool which creates a high pressure zone in Indian Ocean.
ITCZ (inter tropical convergence zone) where northeast and southeast trade winds converge. During summer, it shifts towards Ganga plains.

High pressure zone near east of Madagascar.

Tibetan Plateau get heated immensely during summers

Sub-tropical Westerly winds in Himalayas and easterly winds in Indian peninsula.
Apart of this, El-nino in Pacific ocean can affect Indian monsoon also.

But in 1997, during El-nino year, normal Monsoon occurred in India which leads to a concept called Indian Ocean Dipole effect.

The IOD involves an aperiodic oscillation of sea-surface temperatures, between "positive", "neutral" and "negative" phases. A positive phase sees greater-than-average sea-surface temperatures and greater precipitation in the western Indian Ocean region, with a corresponding cooling of waters in the eastern Indian Ocean—which tends to cause droughts in adjacent land areas of Indonesia and Australia. The negative phase of the IOD brings about the opposite conditions, with warmer water and greater precipitation in the eastern Indian Ocean, and cooler and drier conditions in the west.
The IOD also affects the strength of monsoons over the Indian subcontinent. A significant positive IOD occurred in 1997–98, with another in 2006. The IOD is one aspect of the general cycle of global climate, interacting with similar phenomena like the El Niño-Southern Oscillation(ENSO) in the Pacific Ocean.
