India is still an agricultural nation because according to economic survey 2017–2018 report more than 50 percent of the work force of the country engaged in agriculture but it contributes 17%to the GDP of the nation. But we known about that India as a agriculture nation or not we would analyse the other sectors(industrial GDP-48% and service sector-26%) but the working force of those sectors are low.India - Distribution of gross domestic product (GDP) across economic sectors 2017 | Statistic .

The GDP share of agriculture sector is declining from 1950–2017 but you are asking why you are saying india as an agricultural nation? The reason behind them are …

Industrial sector makes a huge share on GDP but without agriculture sector there is no activation of industrial sector ..it means other than heavy industries (steel, iron etc) all depends upon the agriculture for raw materials for example sugarcane for sugar industry, cotton for cottage industry etc..

In service sector the contribution of agriculture is there…for example if we want to market the agriculture goods means we need service sector .if we want to give loans to farmers we need banking sector (service)..so we directly or indirectly depend on agriculture for all basic needs .

In fact in our history planning is made and it will be end at 12th five year plan it's most of the objectives to improve agriculture in GDP and self sustainability in agriculture.Because it is basic for domestic exchange ,foreign exchange , country's GDP , nutritional values, eradication of poverty etc ..

India's productivity has been doubled since 1950 till now but we are not satisfied yet..
