The Tropics are defined as the region between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn . The Subtropics are the regions between the Tropic Circle of latitude and the 38 th parallel of latitude in each hemisphere . India lies in the Northern hemisphere and is between 8 degrees 4 north latitude and 37 degrees 6 north latitude . This area is  between the Equator and 38 north latitude . Hence by definition India lies entirely in the Tropical and Subtropical regions of the Northern hemisphere .

2.  Local times vary due to the large size of India .India lies between 68.7 degrees East longitude and 97.25 degrees east longitude . This is a span of nearly 30 degrees of longitude . Local time changes by an hour every 15 degree longitude . Since the Easternmost and Westernmost parts of India are separated by nearly 30 degrees of longitude , local time of India by as much as two hours . Thus the local time o the Westernmost parts of India is about two hours behind the Easternmost parts . To ensure uniform time across the country , India has adopted the Indian Standard Time . This is the local time at 82 . 5 degrees East longitude which passes through Allahabad . This is almost halfway between the Easternmost and Western most parts of India . the Indian Standard Time is 5 and a half hours ahead of GMT .

3. The meaning of the word Hmalayas is 'Abode of Snow ' . ' Him ' in Sanskrit means snow and 'Alay ' means home or abode . It has been named thus because the Himalayas are covered in snow due to their great height . Hence, it is as if the snow stays here permanently like in a home .
