The HAL Tejas is a brainchild of Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) programme launched in the year 1980 to replace the MIGs. Officially it was rechristened as "Tejas" in the year 2003 that means "Radiant" in Sanskrit language by the then Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Tejas is also the second supersonic jet launched by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
