Only 29% of Indian population according to the World Bank can be classified as urban population, which means that above 70% of our population still lives in villages. And even though about 60% of our population is dependant on agriculture as their primary source of income, Agriculture seems to be contributing only 22% to the national GDP. Now there is a glitch somewhere when we consider these figures, and these figures definitely present a sorry state of Indian villages in present context when India is being seen as a growing economy.
