Answer:
One of the greatest myths, first propagated by the Indian Congress Party in 1947 upon receiving the transfer of power from the British, and then by court historians, is that India received its independence as a result of Mahatma Gandhi's non-violence movement.
Answer:
It is very true, that India's independence came at a cost. Muslim League, led by Mohammad Ali Jinnah argued that post-independence, India should be divided into states on the basis of religion. But, the Congress did not agree with the League for they wanted India to be a united country. When the British had decided to grant India independence, Muslim League demanded for a separate state for themselves. Unable to decide the distribution of power between the Muslim League and the Indian National Congress, the British decided to divide India into Hindustan and Pakistan. Millions of people we forced to flee their homes and were redeuced to being refugees in alien lands. Numerous women and children experienced untold brutalities during the partition. Riots also broke out in Calcutta and North-India leading to mass massacres and destruction. Therefore, the joy of India's independence came mixed with the pain and violence of partition.
