The Indian Subcontinent is a distinct geographical & cultural region of South Asia. It is defined by geology (part of the Indian plate). Its geographical extent is delimited by the Hindu Kush ranges in the west/north-west,the Himalayan ranges to the north/north-east, the Arakan ranges to the east, and by the waters to the west (Arabian sea),south(the Indian ocean) and east(Bay of Bengal).
Politically, the Indian subcontinent is said to comprise of the following seven States(countries): India,Pakistan,Nepal,Bhutan,Bangla Desh, Sri Lanka and Maldives. There is no consensus about the limits of the Subcontinent. A more or less parallel term for the Subcontinent is South Asia.
The countries which are India’s land neighbors but are not part of the Indian Subcontinent are: Afghanistan,China & Myanmar(Burma)
