Importance of Indian ocean for India is implied in the name “Indian Ocean” itself and this name is thousands of years old and accepted by the whole world. India did not impose it on others. In means India was well known to the whole world from long past and an ocean has been named after it which not an Indian territory but an ocean belonging to all. There are some other water bodies known as Arabian sea or Bay of Bengal , but no ocean is named after a country. I hope Pakistan and China will not try to change the name. It also proves that India was a maritime power from the past and India used to do business with other countries through sea route. There are many countries touching Indian ocean other than India. So, why is l name of India only attached to the ocean and not that of any other country? It shows that India was a great super power in the past. That's why many foreigners like British, France and Portugal came to India for business and colonization and India was repeatedly attacked by Mislim invaders and they sometimes looted India. Nowadays we feel proud if we can go to America because America is the most developed country in the world. By the same reason India must have been a great super power in the past for which everone tried to come to India and an ocean adjoining it has been named Indian ocean. This is a matter of pride for India.
