Dear student!
During those 10 years, there were a lot of practices involving the exploitation and killing of women. Women were considered a financial burden during those times. Thus, female foeticide i.e the act of killing of an unborn female child was largely practiced. Female infanticide also led to a decrease in the number of women. During a girl's marriage, if the dowry she brought with her was not sufficient to fulfil the needs of her in-laws, then the women had to face physical or mental torture by them.In extreme cases, this also leads to death.

Thus, dowry deaths are also one of the reasons for the decrease in the number of women. Hope it helps! cheers!
