Since 1991 till 2001, there was great decline in India’s sex ratio.

The reason behind this was prolonged practices relating to the exploitation and killing of girl child and women.

Some shameful acts were female foeticide, female infanticides and dowry deaths. These greatly reduced the number of females ultimately declining the sex ratio.
