Answer:

1350 people drink neither coffee nor tea.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :- Total number of people = 9000

Number of people that drink tea = 5550

Number of people that drink coffee = 3600

Number of people that drink both tea and coffee = 1500

To Find :- Number of people that drink neither tea nor coffee.

Solution :-

Let U be the set of total number of people.

Let A be the set of people who drink tea.

Let B be the set of people who drink coffee.

∴ set of people who drink both = A ∩ B.

n(U) = 9000, n(A) = 5550, n(B) = 3600, n( A∩B ) = 1500

Number of people that drink neither tea nor coffee

= n(U) − n( A∪B )

= n(U) − [n(A) + n(B) − n( A∩B )]

= 9000 - [5550 + 3600 - 1500]

= 9000 - [9150 - 1500]

= 9000 - 7650

= 1350

Hence, 1350 people drink neither tea nor coffee.
