before the advent of british, india was separated into many princely states which was ruled by rajputs, nawabs, peshwas and the centre, delhi was ruled by mughals
there was no unity among them. north india was prone to frequent wars due to the lack of unity.
this state of anarchy paved way for the exploitation of india by foreign powers.
after the establishment of company rule, the india was unified by british on administrative grounds. the people forgot their differences and joined hands in the freedom struggle led by congress. the muslims were the exception, who were prevented to unite with other indians by the policy of divide and rule.
thus, unification of india was brought by the british rule.
