Indian constitution is the longest hand written constitution in the world. Br Ambedkar was the chairman at that time. There are 470 articles with 12 schedules 22 parts and 124 amendments. It has 146,385 words in English version.

  • Passed by the Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949, it came into effect on 26 January 1950. The date 26 January was chosen to commemorate the "declaration of Purna Swaraj ("complete Independence") of 1930".
