India has been constructing the world's highest railway bridge over Chenab river.

• Chenab bridge is a railway arch bridge between Bakkal and Kauri in Jammu and Kashmir.

• This bridge is made up of steel, concrete and archs.

• The length of this bridge is more than 1.3 kms and height is about 359 metres above the river bed.

• This construction project was taken up by the Afcons Infrastructure Limited.

• Indian Railways is constructing this bridge as a part of Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla rail link project.

• The design of the bridge was approved in 2009 after being rejected in 2008.

• However, the decision for the construction of this arch bridge was declared in 2017.

• And the construction of this bridge is scheduled to be completed by December 2021.
