Indian hockey team won 4 more matches, than it lost to australia. if it won 3/5 of its matches, how many matches did india play?

Let number of matches lost be x.

Therefore, Number of matches won = x + 4

and total matches played = x + x + 4

= 2x + 4

Now x + 4 = 35(2x+4)

=> 5x + 20 = 6x + 12  

=> x = 8

Therefore, Total marches played = 2x + 4  

= = 2(8)+4=20

1. Let us consider "y" as no.of matches it lost
2. Given team won 4 more matches, than it lost to australia.Hence it won y+4 matches
3. Let x be total matches played by team which is equal to y+y+4 i.e,x=2y+4-------->1
4. Also given it won 3/5 of its matches i.e,(y+4)=3/4(x)--------->2
5. On solving these 2 equations we get y=8 and x=20
6. Hence total matches played by team is x which is equal to 20
