Indian Parliament and State assemblies are an example of vertical power-sharing.
Types of power-sharing:
- Vertical power-sharing is said to be practiced when the power is shared between different levels of the government. The bodies at lower levels of the government are controlled by bodies at a higher level of the government. In India vertical power-sharing is practiced between central and state governments. The efficiency with which the different bodies work is improved under this arrangement.
- Horizontal power-sharing is practiced when power is shared among bodies. All bodies are at the same level and none can be considered as higher than the other. In India, this type of power-sharing is seen between the executive, the legislature, and the judiciary.
