Answer:

The House of People and the Council of States constitute India's bicameral Parliament. If a political party or a coalition is able to receive more than half of the total number of seats in the Lok Sabha, which in its current composition is 273 seats,[42] it will be able to form a government.

Bicameral natural of the Parliament :-

The Republic of India has a bicameral parliament as it consists of two houses i.e., Lok Sabha and Rajya sabha. The lower house is known as Lok Sabha while the upper house is known as Rajya sabha .

Since the parliament consists of two houses therefore, participation and collaboration of both the Houses are needed for all legislative functions. However, the constitution recognises the superiority of the Lok sabha over the Rajya sabha.

In its bicameral legislature , The President of Republic of India plays an important role as head of legislature and has full powers to summon and prorogue either house of Parliament or to dissolve Lok sabha.

Relationship between Lok Sabha and Rajya sabha :-

  • The Lok Sabha has more powers than Rajya sabha on account of its greater numerical strength .
  • Ordinary bills can originate in either House of the parliament, whereas Money bills can be introduced in the Lok Sabha. The Rajya sabha cannot reject or amend the Money bill.

Powers & Functions of Parliament :-

  • It enacts laws for the good governance of the country.
  • It can pass a vote of No-confidence and thus dismiss the government in power.
  • It controls the finances of the union.

Composition of both the Houses :-

  • The Lok Sabha has a term of 5 years unless it is dissolved earlier.
  • The Rajya sabha has a term of 6 years and it cannot be dissolved as it is a permanent body.
  • The Lok Sabha consists of not more than 552 members.
  • The Rajya sabha consists of not more than 250 members.
