Britishers thought indians too be mere in front of them and want indians to show respect to the high british officials So they imposed these rules on indians as to take off their turban, and say 'Namaste Sahab' to british officials but when indian too opposed this and said that they should take out their shoes or slippers when entering the holy places like temple, mosque etc.

The Britishers forced Indians to take off their shoes and turbans while meeting a British official or before entering a courtroom to show their respect just like they took off their shoes while entering temples.
