Indians took off their shoes while entering their religious places like temple , gurudwara to show their respect. So the British wanted the Indians to give them the same respect as their gods .So that is why the Britishers forced Indians to take off their shoes and turbans in their presence or before entering the courtrooms. Also taking off ur hat was considered a sign of respect in the west so the British forced the Indians to take off their hats and turbans to show their respect to the British officials.
