Earlier, Before 1990's, Ballot boxes were used for voting in India. The EVM's started from the decade of 1990's. Many things could be achieved because of the EVM machine.
Due to this, if the voters do not want to vote, they could choose an option of 'None of the above' - ( NOTA ). It has become possible for the disabled ( Divyang ) to vote.
Thus, this EVM's reduced the cutting of trees for paper and thereby helped in the protection of environment. This also helped in early declaration of election results.
