It is named after the Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi. The Light House was hit very badly by a Tsunami which followed the earthquake on 26th December, 2004. 17 lives were lost at Indira Point due to the disaster. The 30 meters tall lighthouse tower is submerged partially in a 3 meter high water column.
