1. The reporting verb ' say' is changed into tell if it is followed by an object .It is not changed , if there is no object.

The conjunction that is usually placed after the reporting clause. It is often omitted in the case of verb such as say, think , agree , promise , mention , notice. It is a must if the that clause does not immediately follow the reporting verb.

All the rules for the change in pronouns , tenses and other time and place expression are followed.
