The direction of the current induced in the conductor due to this induced EMF is such that it opposes the change that produced it in the first place.In other words, the induced EMF has a polarity which opposes the change in the magnetic flux through the conducting loop. Hence, induced EMF is also called Back EMF.

Well in an induction circuit, when the key is closed, the current increases from zero value. Thus the increase in the current again produces an induced emf in the same coil. Thus during growth or decay of current in the coil, an opposing induced emf is generated.

Thus, for this reason induced emf is also known as back emf.
